RAW vs Nitro #6 (10/16/95)

Welcome back to another edition of RAW vs Nitro! RAW got the win last time, so let's see what happens this time. Let's get into this, it's RAW vs Nitro #6.

RAW

  • Before the show, we get a video package hyping up the steel cage match between Bret Hart & Issac Yankem. Complete with terrible dentistry-related one-liners. "Inside the steel cage, I'm gonna apply the BIGGEST set of braces in the history of the World Wrestling Federation TO YOUR TEETH!" This a line that was actually said...to Bret Hart. Other awful ones include "You are the tartar & the abscess of the World Wrestling Federation" and "I'm going to be your personal hygienist!", both of which are said by Bret Hart himself. I know they're trying to play this super serious because it's a steel cage match, but...one of the people in the match is an evil dentist. How can anyone take that seriously?
  • Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Doink the Clown-Ugh, it's Doink. And not the cool, evil clown Doink from when he debuted. This is the fun clown who did awful comedy spots. The two lock up, but Helmsley breaks the hold when he gets Doink's face paint on his pec. Doink hits a hip toss and grabs Helmsley's nose before slapping it. Doink hits a body slam before hitting a weird Pedigree like move where he doesn't drop to his and just kind of jumps and lands. What was that? Helmsley comes back with a clothesline and stomps away at Doink. Helmsley continues to beat down Doink hits a sidewalk slam, but Helmsley dodges an elbow drop and hits a knee drop for a near fall. Doink gets two near falls off roll ups, but Helmsley dodges a crossbody and hits the Pedigree, which Doink takes a like a bitch on his knees, for the win. Whatever match.
  • Backstage, Barry Horowitz talks with Hakushi about baseball. I don't know.
  • Before the next match, Gorilla Monsoon announces that due to the Undertaker's injury at the hands of Mabel, he will be replaced by Yokozuna at In Your House 4: The Great White North. If you want to know how that match goes, just read this.
  • The Smoking Gunns (c) vs PG-13-WWF Tag Team Championships-So after beating literally one team, a team of jobbers, mind you, they've earned a tag team title match against the Smoking Gunns. Billy & Wolfie D start out with Billy hitting a hip toss and punching Wolfie to the ground. After a blind tag, Billy makes Wolfie & JC Ice collide. Bart tags in and clotheslines Ice. Ice lands on his feet off a back body drop, only to get clotheslined again before Bart gorilla presses him and throws him into Wolfie. The Gunns work over Wolfie until Ice trips up Billy and Wolfie knees Billy out of the ring. Bart tries to chase both men around the ring, allowing one to attack Billy while the other is being chased, and vice versa. Back in the ring, PG-13 work over Billy until Billy dodges a dropkick and slingshots Ice into Wolfie. Bart gets the hot tag, bodyslams both men, and the Smoking Gunns hit the Sidewinder for the win. Pretty lame match, not very exciting. This would be PG-13's last WWF appearance until 1997. So long, PG-13, you will not be missed.
  • We get a video package hyping up a Women's Championship match between the champion Bertha Faye & Alundra Blayze.
  • Ahmed Johnson cuts a promo about honor. That's it.
  • Dean Douglas vs Joe Dorgan-Dammit, as soon as I said I had yet to see Douglas wrestle, here he is. During this match, we find out that Shawn Michaels got jumped outside a bar in Syracuse. That's not a storyline, that actually happened. They call Shawn Michaels on the phone and he says despite his injuries, he's still going to be at In Your House. Douglas wins with a fisherman's suplex.
  • Goldust cuts a promo, saying he'll beat Mart Jannetty at In Your House.
  • Paul Bearer cuts a promo saying that Yokozuna & Mabel crushed the Undertaker's face and he may not the be the same again. He says he'll return soon and crush the souls of Mabel & the Undertaker. He says Mabel & Yokozuna will never be the same again.
  • Isacc Yankem D.D.S vs Bret Hart in a Steel Cage match-The two lock up before Yankem starts beating down and throwing Hart around the ring. Hart dodges a charging Yankem in the corner and hits an atomic drop followed by a clothesline. Hart bodyslams Yankem before trying to climb out of the cage, but Yankem pulls him back in and beats him down. Yankem tries to climb out, but Hart pulls him back down to the mat. Hart tries to climb out, but Yankem gets him just in time. Yankem throws Hart into the cage wall before trying to climb out, but Hart pulls him back in. Hart tries to go out through the door, but the referee couldn't unlock it, allowing Yankem to recover and beat down Hart. We then find out that Jerry Lawler switched the locks on the cage, preventing the door from being opened. I don't know how he did that or when he got the time to do that or why he kept the lock with him or you know what, I'm just gonna stop trying to figure this out. Yankem tries to climb out of the cage, but Hart bites his knee and tosses him off the top rope. Hart hits a top rope clothesline and locks in the Sharpshooter. Hart lets go and goes tries to climb out of the cage, but Lawler runs over and scales the cage to prevent him from climbing out. However, because Lawler interfered, now he has to be locked in a smaller cage above the ring. Security throws him into the cage and hoists it up in the air. Back in the ring, Yankem goes for a piledriver, but Hart back body drops him and climbs the cage, but Yankem stops him as Lawler yells to let him down before he gets a nosebleed. Yankem slams Hart off the top rope and tries to climb out of the cage, but Hart catches him and knocks him off the top rope, but accidentally crotches himself on the top rope. Meanwhile, Jerry Lawler gets a nosebleed. Hart & Yankem brawl before Hart rams Yankem into the cage wall and hits a sidewalk slam. Hart climbs to the top of the cage, but Yankem grabs him by the hair and pulls him back in. Yankem hits the DDS and climbs up the cage, but Hart grabs him and pulls him down crotch-first on the top rope. Hart hits the ten punches in the corner, but Yankem whips Hart into the corner. From the cage, Lawler drops the key to the lock to Yankem. Yankem can't manage to unlock the door before Hart rolls him over, takes the key, and tosses it out of the cage. Hart hits a bulldog, a backbreaker, and a second rope elbow drop before climbing out of the cage for the win. Fine match, nothing special. Lawler up in the cage was really funny, however.
That's it for RAW. Onto Nitro!

Nitro

  • Before the show, we find out on WCW Pro that Ric Flair has found a partner to take on Arn Anderson & Brian Pillman....Sting. Sting says that if Flair turns his back on him, he'll leave him for dead. And thus, this marks the first RAW vs Nitro appearance of...Idiot Sting! Yes, for some reason Sting was always the worst judge of character in wrestling history. Why is that? Because prior to this, Ric Flair had turned on Sting not once, but twice. Yet for some reason, Sting doesn't think he'll get turned on when Flair asks him to team up to fight Flair's best friend & and another guy. Has Sting never heard the saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Or in Sting's case, it would be "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, seriously, how do I keep falling for this?"
  • Diamond Dallas Page (c) with the Diamond Doll vs Johnny B. Badd-WCW Television Championship-"But wait, wasn't Johnny B. Badd the #1 contender to the United States Championship" is something you might be asking. Yes, but on the night he was supposed to get his title shot, he ended up getting a flat tire and missing out on it. Who was responsible? Diamond Dallas Page! Why would he do that if he had nothing to gain from doing it?...Your guess is as good as mine! So now, Badd wants the Television Championship that Page won at Fall Brawl. Also, we find out that Badd & Page are going to be facing off at Halloween Havoc as well, meaning WCW is either giving away a pay-per-view match for free or this is going to be nonsense. Page comes out to a cheap knock-off of Alice Cooper's "Schools Out" before Badd sprints down. However, while Badd is playing up to the crowd, Page hits him in the back of the head with the Television Championship. He then beats down Badd before taking Badd's confetti gun called the Badd Blaster. Page pins Badd and counts his own pin before firing off the Badd Blaster as the referee disqualifies him. Even though the match never actually started.
  • Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Benoit-Oh hell yes. Benoit starts with a quick arm drag before the two back and forth with quick exchanges. Guerrero takes control with a wristlock before Benoit slingshots up and takes Guerrero down with headscissors before Guerrero does the same. Benoit rolls out of the ring before Guerrero tries for a 619-fake out, but gets caught in the ropes. Guerrero then opts for a top rope crossbody to the outside. Benoit lands on his feet off a suplex back in the ring and side suplexes Guerrero out of the ring but goes out with as Guerrero holds onto to Benoit's head when he goes over. Benoit dodges a forearm by Guerrero, causing Guerrero to go face first into the ring post and hurting his arm. Back in the ring, Benoit hits a hammerlock side suplex followed by a dropkick before hitting a hammerlock belly-to-belly suplex. Benoit hits another suplex on Guerrero before Guerrero counters a tilt-a-whirl with an arm drag and hits a springboard tornado DDT. Guerrero makes a cover, but Benoit gets his foot on the ropes. Benoit takes Guerrero down with a short arm clothesline before going for a hammerlock side suplex, which Guerrero turns into a crossbody for a near fall. The two exchange chops before Benoit bodyslams Guerrero and hits an arm drag into an armbar. Guerrero comes back with a springboard hurricanrana and makes the cover, but Benoit gets his foot on the ropes again. Guerrero hits a side suplex and another suplex before going to the top rope for a frog splash. Benoit blocks the frog splash by getting his knees up and hits a stiff powerbomb for a near fall. Benoit goes for another, but Guerrero rolls through and punches Benoit, but uses his bad arm and gets hurt. Benoit capitalizes and hits a bridging dragon suplex, an awesome finisher, for the win. Great match. Lots of nice, crisp offense from two of the best wrestlers of all time in their primes. Just great wrestling.
  • We find out that WCW is considering having a Cruiserweight Divison complete with a title. Trust me, it's a lot better than the one they have on RAW in 2016.
  • Mean Gene is in the ring, where he plugs the WCW Hotline and hypes up that one of the WWF's official is done in the WWF, and that one WWF wrestler lost a fight to a fan in a parking lot. He then brings out the Giant & Kevin Sullivan to the ring. Sullivan says that Hulk Hogan is the one who created him and says that he is the personification of evil. He says he took Hogan's identity when he shaved his mustache and that Hogan's fans follow him because he's always been a winner, and after he loses at Halloween Havoc, they'll become the children of the Dungeon of Doom. The Giant then says that he'll try to push Hogan off the roof of the arena during the Monster Truck sumo match and then he'll beat him for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Then he should probably avoid trying to push him off the arena.
  • Disco Inferno again! He dances on the stage before the next match comes out to interrupt him.
  • Meng vs Jim Duggan-Meng rushes Duggan before the match before they trade punches. Duggan dodges a corner splash, an elbow drop, and a corner crossbody before clotheslining Meng to the ground. Duggan bodyslams Meng, only for Meng to get back up and superkick him. Meng locks in the Tongan Spike for the win.
  • Hulk Hogan cuts a promo in front of a green screen. He says everyone knows the evil inside him is real and says he & the Giant have never come face to face yet. He says Hulkamania is more powerful than any wrestling promotion and says what he did to the Giant's father is nothing compared to what he's going to do to the Giant. He calls him "big & stinky" again because...you get it by now. He says that the Giant is trying to destroy Hulkamania and Jimmy Hart says he's worried about what he's going to do to Kevin Sullivan & the Giant. Hogan says he's going to win the Monster Truck Sumo match and then retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
  • Arn Anderson & Brian Pillman vs Ric Flair & Sting-I haven't got a chance to talk about it yet because Anderson hasn't gotten an entrance on Nitro yet, but the Four Horsemen's theme is AWESOME! Honestly, one of the best ever. Flair comes out, but Sting no shows the match, making this a 2-on-1 handicap match. Pillman starts with Flair and the two exchange chops before Pillman & Anderson start double teaming, only for Flair to gain the upper hand. Pillman tosses Flair out of the ring and soundly beats down both Anderson & Pillman at ringside. Anderson tags in and the two go back and forth before Flair locks in the figure four. Pillman tries to break it up with a top rope splash, but Flair moves out of the way just in time. Hell, why does Flair even need a partner, he seems to be doing pretty fine by himself. Flair then locks in the figure four on Pillman, but Anderson forces him to break the hold. Flair takes out Pillman before hitting a double axe handle. The numbers game finally comes into play when Pillman hits Flair with a wheel kick, allowing Anderson to hit a spinebuster. Suddenly, Sting runs down and hops up on the ring apron to get the tag. However, Pillman stops it and keeps Flair in his & Anderson's corner. The heels beat down Flair until Flair dodges a dropkick. Sting gets the hot tag and beats down Pillman & Anderson. Sting hits multiple Stinger Splashes before knocking both men down with back elbows and clotheslines. Sting clotheslines Anderson out of the ring before tossing Pillman onto the top rope crotch-first. Anderson & Pillman get counted out, giving the win to Sting & Flair.
  • After the match, Mean Gene comes down to interview Sting & Ric Flair. Sting says that no one thought he could trust Flair but only ran down when because he showed heart by fighting Anderson & Pillman by himself. He says he trusts Flair now and the two shake on it to close the show.
And that's about it. Nitro definitely had the better show. Better matches overall and segments that progressed stories, unlike RAW which had the conclusion of a lame ass feud between Bret Hart and an evil f*cking dentist. Give the point to Nitro.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Combining high-flying, death-defying wrestling with heavily stylized, cinematic segments that more closely resembled an AMC show than what you'd see on Monday Night Raw, Lucha Underground was a hit. Along with just being a unique, enjoyable wrestling experience, the show also provided a launching pad for several of the wrestlers, whether they be American wrestlers getting their biggest exposure to date in Ricochet (Prince Puma) and Jeff Cobb (Matanza Cueto), ex-WWE superstar John Morrison finding new life as Johnny Mundo, or luchadors like Pentagon Jr. and Fenix branching out into the United States. The latter is the case for Sexy Star. Debuting in 2006, Sexy Star would spend the first eight years of her career wrestl
