My Thoughts on SmackDown (11/22/16): The Chin-Possible Dream

  • We kick off the show with Shane McMahon, who is somehow not dead after being speared & spiked into the mat by Roman Reigns. He says he feel like he's been in a car accident after Survivor Series before putting over Team RAW. He specifically praises Randy Orton & Bray Wyatt for being the sole survivors before bringing up that Dean Ambrose & AJ Styles failed to get along for one night like they were supposed to. This brings out Dean Ambrose. Shane says he's upset that Ambrose reunited with the Shield and eliminated his teammate AJ Styles, but Ambrose shrugs it off and brings out James Ellsworth, who comes out with a neck brace. Ambrose ruins Shane's surprise that he is giving Ellsworth a SmackDown contract for his bravery & tenacity. Shane then says that because Ambrose has been out of control, he's getting the night off and asks him to leave the building right now. Ambrose leaves the ring as AJ Styles comes out. He says that Ambrose should be fired from SmackDown for what he did at Survivor Series and shouldn't get to face him for the WWE Championship at TLC. Styles also says that Ellsworth doesn't deserve a SmackDown contract and he hasn't earned it like himself. Styles says that if Ellsworth wants a contract, he should earn it by beating him...in a ladder match. Shane says he doesn't have to do that, but Ellsworth agrees, since he's already beaten Styles twice. Ellsworth says that if he wins, he also wants a shot at the WWE Championship. Shane officially books the match. Suddenly, Ambrose returns to the ring for no reason.
  • Backstage, The Miz & Maryse are doing a photoshoot with the Intercontinental Championship when they are interrupted by Daniel Bryan. Miz says he deserves a celebration for retaining the Intercontinental Championship, but Bryan says he embarrassed SmackDown by the way he retained the title. Bryan then announces that because Kalisto got robbed of his title opportunity by Baron Corbin, he's getting a title match against the Miz tonight. It is incredibly obvious how that match ends.
  • Backstage, Shane McMahon escorts Dean Ambrose out of the arena.
  • The Miz (c) with Maryse vs Kalisto-I actually just noticed that Miz's little SmackDown facts thing actually says "Married to the most beautiful, talented woman in the world." That's so great. The two go back and forth before Kalisto get a few near falls off of roll ups, sends Miz out of the ring, and hits a suicide dive before the commercial break. We come back to Kalisto up-kicking Miz from the apron and hitting a springboard seated senton. Miz blocks a hurricanrana and goes for a slingshot powerbomb, but Kalisto turns it into a hurricanrana for a near fall before spiking Miz into the mat with another hurricanrana for another near fall. Kalisto goes to the top rope, only for Baron Corbin to hop on the apron. Kalisto knocks him down, but that allows Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win. Afterward, Corbin hits the End of Days on Kalisto as Miz & Maryse applaud him from the stage. Miz turns around, only to get superkicked by Dolph Ziggler.
  • Backstage, Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon discuss what just happened. Alexa Bliss comes in as Bryan leaves to deal with Ziggler. Bliss wants her title rematch before Becky Lynch comes in and says she'll get her rematch at TLC. Coach Natalya comes in with her whistle and says that Team SmackDown lost last night because of Becky. She says she feels threatened by Bliss and that distracted her. Shane says it's all of their faults and says that they don't know who attacked Nikki Bella still. He books Natalya against Becky Lynch tonight, and Natalya says that "near or far...this Hart will go on." She quoted Celine Dion. I'm starting to love Natalya. Dean Ambrose shows up with pizza. He gives Shane a slice before Shane makes him leave again.
  • Backstage, Daniel Bryan confronts Baron Corbin. Bryan says Corbin is being reckless & stupid and books him in a match against Kane. Wow...that sounds absolutely dreadful.
  • #1 Contenders Tag Team Turmoil Match
    • The Hype Bros vs The Ascension-The Ascension quickly pounces on the Hype Bros, throwing Rawley around ringside. Viktor dodges a crossbody by Ryder and sends him out of the ring. Konnor brings Ryder back into the ring and the Ascension continues the beatdown on Ryder. Ryder counters a double suplex with a double neckbreaker before Rawley comes in and knocks Konnor out with a punch. The Hype Bros hit the Hype Ryder for the elimination. LOL Ascension
    • The Hype Bros vs Breezango-The Hype Bros immediately throw Breezango out of the ring and Ryder hits a suicide somersault senton onto both of them before the commercial break. We come back to Breeze raking the eyes of Rawley, only for Ryder to hit a second rope dropkick. Fandango pulls Breeze out of the way of the Broski Boot before hitting a slingshot elbow drop onto Breeze's knees for the elimination.
    • Breezango vs American Alpha-Fandango suplexes Gable onto the ropes before he & Breeze kick Gable in the head for a near fall. They go for the slingshot elbow, but Gable blocks it then rolls up Fandango for the elimination.
    • American Alpha vs The Vaudevillians-Jason Jordan immediately German suplexes Simon Gotch and gets the elimination
    • American Alpha vs The Usos-This segment of the match starts during the commercial break. We come back to Jimmy Uso beating down on Jason Jordan. The Usos continue to beat down on Jordan until Jordan reverses a double side suplex and tags in Gable. IT'S CHAD GABLE HOT TAG TIME...it's just not the same. Gable hits a German suplex on Jimmy Uso for a near fall. Jimmy Uso rolls to the outside, so Gable follows him out, only to get thrown into the ring post. The Usos hits a backbreaker/axe handle combo for a near fall before Jordan makes the blind tag, allowing American Alpha to hit an avalanche bulldog on Jey Uso, but Jimmy breaks it up. Jey superkicks Jordan and goes for the top rope splash, but Jordan blocks it with his knees and rolls him up for a near fall. Jimmy Uso stops Gable from tagging in, but Gable comes back and stops the Usos from taking out Jordan's leg with a German suplex. American Alpha hit Grand Amplitude for the elimination and the w-
NOPE! The Wyatt Family appears on screen, and Bray Wyatt reveals that next week, he & Randy Orton will take on American Alpha in a #1 Contenders match. I'm pretty sure that's not how a tag team turmoil match works, but whatever. This whole match was pretty poor. All of the matches except for the AA/Usos match were very quick.
  • Backstage, Daniel Bryan makes sure that James Ellsworth wants to go through with his match tonight. Ellsworth says he does and that he never thought he'd make it as far as he has in WWE. He says any man with two feet can climb a ladder before Dean Ambrose dressed up as a mountie comes in. Bryan tells Ambrose to leave before Shane comes in. Shane yells at him, so Bryan tells Shane to calm down. Shane leaves and Bryan asks Ambrose why he's dressed as a mountie. Ambrose says it's obvious and tells Bryan to tell AJ Styles...the mountie always gets his man. JBL says "What is that, the Lunatic Rougeau Brother? I thought we got rid of all of them." Sometimes...JBL is alright.
  • Natalya vs Becky Lynch-Alexa Bliss is on commentary for this match. David Otunga argues that Bliss shouldn't get another title shot against Becky Lynch, even though she clearly had her foot on the rope when she was in the Dis-Arm-Her. Stupid idiot...didn't this guy go to Harvard, too? How has he not be kicked off of commentary yet? The two trade holds before Natalya slaps Becky. Becky comes back with strikes of her own and goes to the top rope, but Natalya grabs her and hits a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall before the commercial break. We come back to Natalya working over Becky with an abdominal stretch. Natalya bodyslams Becky and sits on her for a near fall before Becky rolls her up for a near fall of her own. Becky comes back with clotheslines and a single leg dropkick. Natalya blocks the Flying Firearm in the corner and the two each block each other's submissions. Becky hits the BexPlex before Natalya goes for the Sharpshooter. Becky reverses it and locks in the Dis-Arm-Her for the submission win. Bliss attacks Becky after the match and plants her with a DDT.
  • Backstage, Daniel Bryan is on the phone when the Miz & Maryse walk in. Miz wants Dolph Ziggler suspended for superkicking him. Bryan announces that Ziggler will face Miz at TLC for the last time period in a ladder match.
  • In the locker room, Nikki Bella confronts Carmella. She accuses her of taking her out before Survivor Series, but Carmella says she didn't do it. Nikki says that she talked with Daniel Bryan, and he has booked Nikki vs Carmella in a No Disqualifications match at TLC.
  • Kane vs Baron Corbin-The two trade blows to start before Corbin slides out of the ring. Kane slides out after him, but Corbin gets back in the ring and boots him off the apron. Suddenly, Kalisto attacks Corbin for a DQ, allowing Kane to chokeslam him. Kalisto grabs a chair and runs back into the ring, but Corbin rolls out. Kalisto tells him to come back, so he does. Kalisto throws him the chair and kicks it into Corbin's face, sending him out of the ring.
  • James Ellsworth vs AJ Styles in a ladder match-Ellsworth's contract on the line-Ellsworth is still wearing his neck brace before Styles rips it off of him. Styles nonchalantly grabs a ladder, but Ellsworth refuses to give up. Styles shoves him off with the ladder and sets it up. Styles starts to climb, but Ellsworth grabs his foot. Styles kicks him off and hits a backbreaker. Styles sets him up in the Tree of Woe on a ladder and kicks him before placing the ladder on top of him. Styles climbs the ladder, but guess who comes back...STEVE BLACKMAN! Nah, it's Dean Ambrose. Ambrose beats up Styles and frees Ellsworth. Styles hits the Phenomenal Forearm on Ambrose before climbing the ladder again, but Ellsworth pushes the ladder over and sends Styles to the outside. Ellsworth sets up the ladder, but Styles gets back in the ring, only to eat No Chin Music. Styles accidentally gets himself tied up in the ropes, allowing Ellsworth to climb the ladder and grabs the contract for the win.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Combining high-flying, death-defying wrestling with heavily stylized, cinematic segments that more closely resembled an AMC show than what you'd see on Monday Night Raw, Lucha Underground was a hit. Along with just being a unique, enjoyable wrestling experience, the show also provided a launching pad for several of the wrestlers, whether they be American wrestlers getting their biggest exposure to date in Ricochet (Prince Puma) and Jeff Cobb (Matanza Cueto), ex-WWE superstar John Morrison finding new life as Johnny Mundo, or luchadors like Pentagon Jr. and Fenix branching out into the United States. The latter is the case for Sexy Star. Debuting in 2006, Sexy Star would spend the first eight years of her career wrestl
